BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SIGNED 1967 FREEHOLD HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK

brucebruce2

Rare and extremely desirable Bruce Springsteen signed high school yearbook. The 1967 Freehold New Jersey Regional High School yearbook, titled The Log, features aspiring artist and graduating senior Bruce Springsteen in the era and context that inspired him and shaped much of his creative powers in the years to come. Springsteen has inscribed and signed the book in blue ink above his yearbook picture, “Anielia, Best of luck in the coming years and always remember Mr. Hussey’s English class. Have fun this summer, Bruce.” Both the inscription and signature are printed and grade “10.” Springsteen is pictured only once in the book and it appears obvious, by the brief educational summary printed below his name “”Freehold Boro…College Prep”), that his academic pursuits had already taken a back seat to his musical ambitions. At the time of his graduation, Springsteen was performing as the lead guitarist and singer for a local band call “The Castilles.” His career quickly blossomed and just seven years later, following a performance of Springsteen and the E Street Band in Cambridge, Massachusetts, music critic Jon Landau, wrote “I saw my rock and roll past flash before my eyes. I saw something else: I saw rock and roll’s future and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” (Landau would later become Springsteen’s manager and producer.) The 308-page (including eight-page insert) leather-bound book (8 x 10.75 inches features numerous inscriptions to “Aniela” throughout and displays light wear from normal handling.
